Skin

‘SKIN’ IS A RECURRENT CONCEPT IN MY ART WHICH I REPRESENT THROUGH THE USE OF TIGHTS AND THE STRONGLY TEXTURED SURFACES OF MY PAINTINGS. IT IS BOTH A LITERAL AND SYMBOLIC DIVISION BETWEEN THE INTERIOR WORLD THAT EXISTS BENEATH IT AND THE EXTERIOR WORLD, WHICH SURROUNDS US. OUR SKIN MARKS OUR LIMITS. IT IS THE LINE WHERE WE FINISH AND EVERYTHING ELSE BEGINS. HOW WE MANAGE THE COEXISTENCE OF THESE TWO WORLDS DETERMINES OUR MENTAL HEALTH AND EMOTIONAL STABILITY.

THE ARTWORK WHICH MAKES UP THE ‘SKIN’ SERIES CONSISTS PRIMARILY OF STRUCTURES COVERED IN TIGHTS SEWN TOGETHER BY HAND. THE TIGHTS CREATE A WEB THAT APPEARS IMPENETRABLE BUT TRANSPARENT, SHOWING US THE LIMIT BETWEEN A COMPLEX AND LAYERED INTERIOR WORLD AND THE OPEN AND BOUNDLESS SPACE AROUND IT.
